Privacy Policy — Yomishirube

This Privacy Policy explains how Yomishirube (the "App") handles user information. By using the App, you are deemed to have agreed to this Policy.

This English version is provided for convenience. If there is any inconsistency between this version and the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.

1. Information We Collect

To provide the service, the App may collect and store the following information.

Account information: the identifier provided through Sign in with Apple (Apple User ID). The App does not collect or store your email address as account information.
Content you enter: books you register, reading records, memos, notes, and other text or images you enter into the App.
Purchase information: your purchase status if you use in-app purchases (payment details themselves are processed by Apple and are not held by the App).
AI feature usage: the start date and usage count of the free trial, stored on our server to prevent abuse. This data is retained for up to one year.
Contact information: if you use the contact form, your name, email address, inquiry category, device and iOS version, app version, and the content of your inquiry.

2. Purposes of Use

To provide the App's features, such as saving and displaying your reading records.
To provide AI-generated output, such as recaps and summaries, based on the text you enter.
To respond to inquiries, verify identity, investigate and fix issues, and improve support quality.

3. Transfers to External Services and Third Parties

When you use the App's AI features, the text you have entered is sent to an external AI service (such as generative AI models on Amazon Bedrock, provided by Amazon Web Services) to perform the AI processing. The transmitted content is used for the purpose of that AI processing.

To search for book information, your search terms may be sent to external book-information services (such as the Rakuten Books API, the Google Books API, and OpenBD).

Except where required by law, we do not sell or provide your personal information to third parties without your consent.

Note: text recognition (OCR) of book covers and pages is, as a rule, processed on your device using Apple's Vision framework; the images themselves are not sent externally.

4. Data Storage and Deletion

Your data, such as reading records, is stored primarily on your device.
If you use the Pro plan, your data can be synced via iCloud (Apple CloudKit). Data in iCloud is managed in accordance with Apple's privacy policy.
You can delete your account and all data on your device from Settings → Account → Delete Account within the App.
Data synced to iCloud can be deleted by you from the iOS Settings app (Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage → Yomishirube).

5. Analytics

To improve the service, the App collects anonymous, statistical usage data. We use TelemetryDeck (an analytics service based in Germany) for this analysis.

Only anonymous statistics are collected, such as screen views and feature usage frequency.
No personally identifiable information (Apple ID, nickname, memo content, etc.) is ever sent.
App Tracking Transparency (ad-tracking permission) is not used.

6. Security

We take reasonable and appropriate security measures to prevent leakage, loss, or damage of the information we collect.

7. For Users in the EU / EEA (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union or the European Economic Area, the following additionally applies under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Data controller: the individual developer of Yomishirube. You can reach the controller via the contact form.
Legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the App's features you request), legitimate interests (preventing abuse of the AI free trial, improving the service through anonymous analytics), and your consent where applicable.
International transfers: data processed on our server is handled in Japan (on AWS infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific (Tokyo) region). Japan has an adequacy decision from the European Commission. Analytics data is processed by TelemetryDeck in Germany.
Retention: reading data lives on your device (and your iCloud, if you enable sync). Server-side AI trial data is kept for up to one year. Contact inquiries are kept only as long as needed to handle them.
Your rights: you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. You can exercise deletion directly in the App (see Section 4) or contact us for any request. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
